Endorsement Highlights Torrez Respect for NM Acequia and Land Grant Traditions
ALBUQUERQUE — Today, Bernalillo County District Attorney Raúl Torrez announced that State Representative Miguel P. Garcia (District 14 - Bernalillo) has endorsed his campaign for New Mexico Attorney General.
“Raúl Torrez is my choice to be New Mexico's next Attorney General,” said Representative Garcia. “ He has been a great partner to work with in the Legislature and I look forward to working with him as Attorney General to expand Opioid Settlement Funds from opioid manufacturers for treatment, abatement and abuse prevention in our state. Raúl also brings a refreshing reassurance to the continuance of traditional acequia customs as practiced by his father’s side of the family, and respect of Spanish Land Grant traditions from his wife’s side of the family in northern New Mexico.”
Raúl’s family has lived in New Mexico for centuries and has roots in communities throughout the state. The Torrez family has been part of an acequia in the Hondo Valley in Lincoln County for generations, and they are members of, and have worked closely with, the New Mexico Acequia Association. Additionally, his wife Nasha’s family has been part of a Land Grant in northern New Mexico and they regularly work to help maintain the area.
“It’s an honor to have earned Representative Garcia’s support,” said Torrez. “He has provided remarkable leadership for our state in the Legislature for over 20 years, and been a champion for protecting our New Mexican way of life. I look forward to working with him as Attorney General to protect our families, and build a better future for the next generations.”
